on Wednesday, May 7, at 7 pm EST here on Substack.Voice of America staffers are legally fighting to reverse an executive order to defund and dismantle the international broadcaster. VOA and its sister agencies delivered independent news to hundreds of millions of people around the world until the order was issued in March. A source told me that a select few of VOA’s hundreds of employees were called back to headquarters in Washington, DC this week, but as of publication, they had received no direction about how to restart the global operation.
President Trump accused VOA of being biased against him, and the administration says the cuts are to reduce government waste. The moves are part of a systematic effort to threaten, intimidate and coerce the media to comply with Trump’s ideology and not question abuse of power. This is the kind of story VOA used …
